As we all settle down into a new week, lets look back at the weekend that was. Starting with the sevens, not such a good result in the end but a start that the team can look to and definitely have to improve on. We bowed out at the shield semi meaning we gather 1 point in Australia. If there is one thing we can pick as a positive from the Gold coast is the fact that our defence has improved immensely.. You could see the system working especially when we were down to six men, the boys covered the extra shimo very well! Now we just need to add an equally efficient attack. We head to Dubai at the weekend where we are pooled with France, England and Zimbabwe. A manageable pool from where am sited, key word being Manageable not easy..we need to beat Zim and one of the rest to progress to the quarters. I can see y’all giving me the ‘Easier said than done’ look, I know. Here are the Day 1 (2/12/2011) Fixtures in Kenya time.

A more favourable part of the world in terms of time zones a definite welcome break from the 4 a.m wake up calls.
Back home, the league kicked off with the only game seeing Strathmore beating Mwamba 12-3 at the UoN grounds. An impressive win by the XVII crew, they are going to be a very solid prospect this season as and when it starts as they look to finally replicate their sevens form in the fifteens. The other fixtures all ended up in walk overs.. Kisumu, Machine, benefiting. Machine made the short trip to ruaraka..to play touch rugby with Kisumu having had taken the risk of impairing security in Kondele (as all the big boys play for the rugby team) and traveling to Nairobi to warm up and watch buildings according to their outspoken rep. The Kenya friendlies cup went on as planned, Nakuru beating Nondies at Jamuhuri park Homeboyz going down 12-11 at the last minute, or not, depending on who you ask..to Impala. Apparently Impala employed the ‘until we score’ tactic oftenly used by a certain Sir. outside the rugby world. This being a friendly I don’t think it was much of an issue. The other fixture had to be the pick of the lot because my coin toss said so..K.C.B taking on the Kenya Harlequins anyone who knows the history of this fixture knows that there is nothing friendly when these two meet, and this one was no different. Big hits going in from both sides but Kcb having an edge on their hosts. Several debuts were made as Dadex and Nyikuli made theirs for Quinz..Indimuli and Meso for Kcb, the latter were not debuts as such more of a coming back home of the prodigal sons. Kcb took this one 17-7!
From what I saw we should be closer to a solution, maybe even this week or not! As there is a meeting slated for later today to discuss the way forward. So keep those fingers crossed, pray or whatever it is you do for faith that this meeting finally comes up with a solution. It will be interesting to see whether the fixtures are revised or continue to game week two! Rumor had it that the wanyore had changed their minds on being elite after a 90,000 bounty but since they played the friendly I guess not…lets wait and see how they behave later today.
