After Match day 1 action in Kampala, the BRSS caravan makes it’s way to Kakamega town for the second round of matches.
In Kampala, Kenyan franchises Chui and Papa got their campaigns to winning starts beating the Victoria and Rwenzori, 10-3 and 25-6 respectively. The Papa will be back in action this weekend, alongside the Victoria with Rwenzori and Chui taking breathers.
Papa who lead Pool A, will face Kifaru, the universities Franchise, with Victoria taking on the defending champions the Ndovu at the Kakamega High School from 2pm.
The 2’O clock kick off will see the revamped defending champions begin their title defence against a Victoria side that lost on match day 1 and will be keen on getting back on track.
The Ndovu who now comprise of Nakuru RFC, Western Bulls, Kisumu RFC, Kabras Sugar RFC and Eldoret RFC, will be looking to emulate what Nakuru RFC did almost single handedly and win the 2013 edition.
Their first hurdle will see them tackle a Victoria side that contains this year’s Uganda cup runner’s up Heathens, Buffaloes and the Mongers. The Victoria who were semi finalists in 2012 will be looking to get to winning ways and get rid of the bitter loss to Chui at home.
The tea time kick off see’s one of last year’s losing semi finalist, Papa take on Kifaru. Papa made a blistering start to this campaign with that 25-6 win over last year’s runners up Rwenzori at the Kyadondo Rugby club.
The Kifaru, formerly Kengewa will be kicking off their campaign at the Kakamega high school looking to reach the Semi finals for the first time in three years. The campus sides last made it to the knock out stages in 2011 and will have their work cut out for them against a well oiled Papa side.
The most memorable meeting between these two was probably in 2011 at the RFUEA, when the Papa were referred to as the Lions with the Kifaru going by the name Sharks. In a Pool A encounter on match day 2, the Sharks rallied from 15-25 to win 32-25 in a little over fifteen minutes.
Though chances of a repeat result are slim, you can never write off the resolute Kifaru side. For those who will be unable to make the trip to Kakamega, Zuku should have you covered..
