Laiser Hill Academy will, at the weekend, be looking to complete one of the greatest runs in schools rugby, when they take on Lenana for the most prestigious schools’ title, the Prescott Cup.

This match will be the top bill of a series of seven matches to be held at the RFUEA,the culmination of this year’s schools’ rugby calendar.

First up will be the Damu Changa Bronze final kicking off at 8:30 am, where Mangu II will be taking on Strathmore II. This will be followed by the Damu Changa final pitting RVA II and Alliance II. Strathmore II finished top of Pool A but failed to make it past the semi finals, RVA II finished on top of Pool B and will be looking to lift the Damu Changa title.

In the Damu Pevu, Aquinas will play Ofafa Jericho II in the bronze final at 10:50 am. Later in the day Nairobi School will be looking to get back into the Prescott when they face Muhuru Muchiri in the final at 1:10 pm. The Patch Machine is yet to taste defeat in the Damu Pevu and will be out to keep that record alive after the eighty minutes.

Muhuru Muchiri also boast of the same record and will also be gunning for not only that record but a shot at promotion to the Prescott Cup.

In the top flight, RVA will be taking on Upperhill in the Plate final at noon, this will then be followed by the Bronze final between Alliance High School and Strathmore at 2:20 pm.

This will then set the stage for the big one between Lenana and Laiser Hill. These two have had a contrasting run of sorts, while Lenana finished second in Pool B behind RVA, the Mean Maroon narrowly beat 8-5 in the semi finals to book this date.

On their part, Laiser Hill have rarely put a foot wrong in their first Prescott cup campaign. They finished top of Pool A, albeit on points difference after narrowly losing 13-10 in their last pool match. They went on to turn this result in the semi finals, beating Bush 23-10 and book this berth.

Laiser Hill will be looking to achieve one of the greatest feats in schools’ rugby, at least in my generation. Never have I heard of a side that has made it to the final in their first stub at the Prescott cup let alone win it.

It’s been a long time since the Mean Maroon made it to the Prescott final, having been almost relegated in 2012. To many they will not only be fighting for the Prescott cup, but for the status quo in schools’ rugby. Laiser Hill will be representing the new dispensation, a revolution that they have championed from the front.

It promises to be a great day of schools’ rugby, as the best of the next generation of Kenyan rugby, here’s tomorrow’s run of play :

8:30 am – Mangu II vs Strathmore II (Damu Changa Bronze final)

9:40 am – Rva II vs Alliance II (Damu Changa Final)
