A last minute Ben Nyambu try saw Nondies claim an 18-16 result at the Kakamega Show grounds against high flying Kabras.

That win ended a worrying streak for the white shirts who had gone four games without a win. It was sweet victory for the side that has been playing some great rugby since the turn of the year, with results the only thing not going their way.

Leading 8-6 at half time, Nondies found themselves trailing 11-8 in the opening exchanges of the second half. It looked like they were headed to their fifth loss on the trot, with the score board reading 16-13, before ever green Ben Nyambu struck with virtually the last play of the match to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Kabras remain in fourth spot after picking up a losing bonus point, as Nondies remain in 10th spot, but only a point behind 9th spot.

Elsewhere, tries from Mike Okombe, Leslie Ochieng, Victor Shigholi and Edwin Okwema saw defending champions finally get their first win over Mwamba in two years, a 24-12 result at the NAC. In a highly charged match, that saw the two sides play out 10 minutes with 14 men as Sammy Warui and Collins Injera served time in the sin bin.

The match went into the break finely poised with the score reading 10-5, with Shaban Ahmed having scored for the black shirts. The second half saw the hosts score two more tries before a Lavin Asego try from an intercepted pass made the score a bit more respectable for Kulabu at the death.

That result ensured that the Wanyore remained top of the log on 44 points, with Kulabu now without a win in three matches but remain in 5th spot on 25 points.

At the Lion’s den, Strathmore got back to winning waysx getting past a stubborn Quins side, 32-15 in the early kick off. Former Leos man Brian Okwomi got the quartered shirts going with a break away try, for a 5-0 early lead. Adrian Opondo levelled the scores for the Leos as Ken Andola converted for a narrow 7-5 lead.

Churchill Ooko would then score two beauties, one from an intercepted pass sprinting half the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Brian Okwomi would land his brace as the score read 19-10 at the half time break.

Two Andola penalties and an Alex Olaba try in the second half saw Leos stretch their lead to 32-10 before Andola saw red card for retaliation. Tony Onyango would serve time in the sin bin with Leos finishing the match with 13 men. Sidney Ashioya would make the numbers advantage count with a try in the closing stages of the match for a 32-15 result.

Mean Machine made a huge step in securing top flight status next season when they beat the Catholic Monks 17-5 to jump into 12th spot on 7 points. The Monks now face an uphill task in unchaining themselves from the shackles of relegation, they are now in 13th spot with 4 points.

There were big wins for Impala and Western Bulls against Blak Blad and Mombasa respectively. The red shirts claimed a 68-7 result with the Bulls charging to a 84-0 lead at the Kakamega Show grounds.

In the tea time kick off at the Lion’s den, hosts KCB proved too strong for the Homeboyz as they claimed a 41-5 result.

Max Adaka would show the Lions intent in the first few minutes, breaking away from three tackles to score under the posts, Darwin Mukidza converting for a 7-0 lead. From this point it was all downhill as the Djs looked dazed by the Lions play.

Further tries from Andrew Amonde, Curtis Lilako and John Ahenda saw KCB bag the bonus point before the half time break with the score board reading 26-0.

A Darwin Mukidza penalty got things under way in the second half ticking the score to 29-0 before a brilliant effort by Alvin Otieno to release Bush Mwale saw the Djs finally get points on the score board to make it 29-5. The Lions took over the proceedings from this point, as Amonde landed his brace before substitute Allan Omuka sealed the 41-5 result for the hosts.

The Lions remain in second spot, one point behind leaders Nakuru as the two keep their unbeaten records going. Despite that defeat, the Djs remain in 6th spot benefiting from the results by their closest rivals who also fell on Match day 9.
