With bonus point wins for both Mwamba and Kabras RFC on match day 12, the battle for the last play off spot is set to go down to the wire.

After match day 12, Impala are out of the race for fourth, with Strathmore now in danger of slipping to fourth. Two points separate Kabras and Mwamba with the Leos four points ahead of Kabras.
Kulabu were ruthless against Blakblad at the red lion in the early kick off, leading 25-3 at the break, the black shirts took full advantage of a Blad red card in the second half to claim a 78-3 result. Kabras played through the drenching rain at the RFUEA to grab a 27-10 result against Quins.
On the other end of the table, it is farewell to Mombasa who failed to honour their second fixture of the season, this time against Homeboyz taking their tally to -4. Catholic still have a fighting chance on the last weekend, they are three points behind Mean Machine.
League leaders KCB opened a one point lead at the top of the table with a 64-9 win over the Monks at the Lions Den. Nondies were 36-12 winners against a spirited Mean Machine, with Impala scrapping through to a 26-24 result against Western Bulls at the Bull ring.
At the Impala grounds, the heavy rains that pounded the area through out the game did little to dampen what was a great match between defending champions Nakuru and third placed Strathmore.
The Wanyore started the match in blistering form, Calvin Otieno going over from the kick off for a 5-0 lead. The returning Andola would cut the deficit from a penalty to make it 5-3 with 15 minutes gone. He would however scuff an opportunity to hand his side the lead minutes later from another penalty.
Nakuru had no such problems as Godfrey Mbeya scored the side’s second try against the run of play, Martin Muita missing the conversion for a 10-3 score at the half time break.

The rain had a significant hand in the handling levels here, that being a constant, the two sides were largely evenly matched in that half. The Leos were guilty of squandering some great scoring chances. Nakuru looked settled with the return of key figures, the likes of Lawi Buyachi, Giles Littlewood, Gibson Weru and Calvin Otieno.
Strathmore would kick off the second half with a sense of urgency, Ken Andola quickly cutting the deficit to 4 points off a penalty. Nakuru would endure a torrid period with the Leos attacking relentlessly. Things were not made any easier for the defending champions as they were reduced to 14 men, courtesy of a yellow card.
The Leos would struggle to find a way past the Nakuru defence, that looked better off with 14 men. The Wanyore clearly showed their pedigree when they were down to 14, not only shutting down the Leos but also asking questions in attack.
They were soon back to their full complement, and almost immediately Godfrey Mbeya landed his brace, with Javan Murayi converting for a 17-6 score. Shortly after, the Leos would find themselves down to 14 men, denting any chances they had of a come back. Nakuru holding on for that 17-6 result.
It was a great match that could have gone the other way had the Leos been a bit more clinical and made better decisions at crucial moments. That is, taking nothing away from a Nakuru side who showed great character in grinding out this result, they did well to control the match’s tempo.
We are now into the business end of the season, with the play offs only two weeks away, the top four sides will have to engage a higher gear as the race to the title heats up.
