Nairobi 10s Draw Out

The draw for the 2015 Nairobi 10s was released earlier today at the RFUEA grounds, with defending champions Strathmore leading the way in the 24 team format.

The tournament in its 5th edition features a total of 24 teams and a women’s tournament for the first time, a true testament to its growth over the years.

Defending champions Strathmore headline Pool A and will battle it out against Comras, Machine and Ngong. Hosts Homeboyz who have made it to all the cup finals of the tournament this far without winning it, lead Pool B where they square it out against Eastlanderz, SEKU and Nondies.

2011 champions Mwamba are in Pool C where they face TUK, Muranga and the Dagoretti Bull dogs. Impala, Quins and Western Bulls headline Pools D through F.

Pool A : Strathmore, Comras, Machine, Ngong

Pool B : Homeboyz, Eastlanderz, SEKU, Nondies

Pool C : Mwamba, TUK, Muranga, Dagoretti Bull dogs

Pool D : Impala, Catholic, Daystar, Kisii

Pool E : Quins, JKUAT, Brumbies, Stormers

Pool F : Western Bulls, Blak Blad, MKU, Kiambu

A total of 9 Kenya cup sides will battle it out for the main title over the two days, and while some of the big names like KCB, Kabras and Nakuru missing from the draw this one promises to be an exciting two days of 10s rugby.

The shorter versions of this sport tend to level things up a bit, giving the ‘smaller’ sides realistic opportunities at claiming major scalps. We have seen this before, remember Bungoma vs Impala at the recently concluded great rift ten a side?

Now expect more of such results at the weekend, with the smaller sides having the best opportunity to curve out a name for themselves.

Pool D and E are my best bets for ‘down to the wire action.’ With the sides being ranked at the end of Day 1 action just like they were in Nakuru, expect every point to be greatly fought over.

The Women’s matches will be played out just before the last round of pool matches, with KCB, Quins and Comras in Pool A, Pool B will see Mwamba, Nakuru and Eastlanders do battle. The semi finals and finals will be played on Sunday.

This one looks like it will be a great festival of rugby, with loads of fresh talent on display, best part is somebody other than KCB will win something this year hehe. Then the greatest Kenyan rapper, ever Kaka Sungura will be performing on Saturday evening, now why would you miss this one?

Oh its only 300 bob..
