Mama Rainbow Takes On Head To Head

Remember that segment called head to head? Where I alongside a special guest every week, try to predict the outcome of the rugby matches lined up. Yeah that one, well its back!

This being sevens season the metrics around the prediction system will obviously change. Instead of predicting the outcome of each match (who wants all that, anyway?) we will stick to what matters.

We shall be predicting the 8 sides to make it to the Cup competition on Day 2 and the eventual winner. Guests will also have the option to predict the Shield, Bowl and Plate winners if they so wish. The points system will be as follows :

2 points for every correct quarter finalist picked.

5 points for correctly picking the winner.

Thus a perfect score would see a total score of 21 points. Tuko pamoja mpaka hapo? Then here we go.

I don’t think that I could have landed a better guest to kick off the sevens season. Ladies and gentlemen, when God looked down on Kenya rugby, He saw a bunch of heartless rowdy people. In His never ending wisdom, so as to even out things and save us all, the good Lord gave us one with the ‘bubbliest’ (is that even a word?), kindest, of personalities and a heart to go with.

I present to you the Queen of team Cool beans, Mama Nathan or as we know her Mama Rainbow., or if you like, Mama Kulabu, Eunice Olembo. Coming from a family with a long line of rich rugby history, there is only one place Eunice would have ended up. Wonder why she doesn’t play though hehe.

Here are her predictions : Cup Quarter Finalists – Mwamba, KCB, Homeboyz, Strathmore, Nondies, Quins, Nakuru and Impala. She then admits her biasness and picks Mwamba to succesfully defend their Christies title.

My line up of eight looks something like this : KCB, Western Bulls, Homeboyz, Kabras, Nakuru, Strathmore, Mwamba and Quins. My pick for the cup is Homeboyz RFC.

A real tough set of predictions to make, especially this being the first leg, there is very little knowledge of the sides we are running mostly on gut feeling here and history. I don’t expect this to get any easier, even after watching the sides play.

Join in the fun and predict away in the comments section below, tuone mganga wa nani mnoma!

See you on Saturday!
