Battle Of The Titans

A few years back, we used to have Kenya rugby’s version the Community Shield, it used to be called the Supremacy Cup. Remember it?

It pitted the winners of that season’s Kenya and Enterprise cups, in a battle of the titans to have one ultimate fifteens champion. Good times indeed. Well the good times are back!

This weekend at the RFUEA grounds, two giants of the game will square it out in the first edition of the ‘Battle of the Titans.’ There is no denying that the two biggest clubs in the country rugby right now are Nakuru RFC and KCB RFC. The two have been trading the country’s major trophies for the last two years, like child’s play.

Top Fry Nakuru picked up the 15s double in the 2013/14 season, with KCB claiming the overall sevens circuit crown for the second season running. This past season saw the Lions grab the 15s double with the Wanyore claiming their first ever sevens title.

Between 2012 and 2014, the two sides met 7 times with the Wanyore winning 6 times, those wins featuring Enterprise Cup and Kenya cup finals. The two have however only met once from November 2014 to date, this fixture has been a long time coming.

Though it is billed as a pre-season friendly, we all know that there is very little ‘friendly’ that goes on, both on and off the pitch any time these two meet.

To precede this fixture is an equally, explosive encounter between former neighbours Quins and Menengai Cream Homeboyz RFC. The two have been involved in some interesting clashes since the latter’s promotion to the top flight, this one looks like it will be an addition to that list.

Action kicks off at 2pm, and like every great rugby Saturday we’ll wrap things up with an after party at the Quins Bar. Si tuonane on Saturday basi..

KWISHA….Nimeruka Nje!!
