Round 3 of the women’s league once again belonged to the Lionesses who showed up, stepped up and owned the leg, picking up their second title.
The KCB Lionesses took on the Quins ladies in the final, blanking them 40-12. Shebesh and Phila ran riot and broke the defensive line over and over again. Shebesh was on fire, crossing the try line, an incredible, 4 times, twice in each half. With only two legs remaining and with this win in hand, the 2nd edition of the Women’s League, is now KCB’s to lose.
The Quins ladies bounced back from their previously rocky weekend, finishing second overall and only suffering a defeat at the hand of the eventual leg winners, KCB. The Quins ladies, came into the final after having pulled off a 12-0 semi-final victory over the Nakuru Ladies.
The Mwamba ladies seemed to have taken their feet off the gas pedal, and their hunger to retain the title they won during the inaugural leg, diminished. The Mwamba ladies cruised through their pool games, only losing to the Quins ladies 17-12. They however lost their semi-final match against the KCB Ladies, who were clinical throughout the match, 29-0. The Mwamba ladies finished off in third position, narrowly piping the Nakuru Ladies to a 12-5 victory. If the Mwamba ladies have any desire to successfully defend their title, they need to step up to the plate and dig deep!
The Blad Babes under the watchful eye of Ken Moseti registered their first win, against their Thika Road neighbours, USIU Ladies, taking them down 10-0 in the Bowl Semi Final.
Disappointing was Impala’s early exit from the third leg of the tournament despite having played two games, citing the rising number of injuries. Before pulling out, the Impala Ladies went down 36-5 to KCB and managed a draw, 10-10 with the USIU Ladies.
Next up on the menu, Thika Road twasija! The Blad Babes will be playing host of the 4th leg, at the Kenyatta University grounds on the 20th of March. Come one, come all! If you don’t have a plan, here you go. If you have a plan, cancel it and make this your plan!
